Japan Confirms Joint Yen Intervention with US

By

Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama has confirmed that the ministry purchased yen on July 31 in coordination with the U.S. Treasury Department, according to a news release on Monday.

The action, authorized under the September 2025 US-Japan Finance Ministers' Joint Statement, aimed to counter excessive yen volatility following its slide in recent months.

Katayama said that Tokyo remains in close contact with the U.S Treasury and stands ready to conduct further coordinated operations if needed.

Additionally, Japan plans to utilize the Federal Reserve's Foreign and International Monetary Authorities, or FIMA Repo Facility, going forward.
