QatarEnergy will not be able to fulfill its gas delivery obligations to Edison (EDNR.MI) after extending its force majeure event through the end of September from early April.
The Italian electric utility said Tuesday that the delay prevents the delivery of an additional three liquefied natural gas cargoes to the Adriatic LNG terminal in Italy, raising the overall disrupted cargo shipments to 24, or a total of 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
Edison, however, confirmed its ability to source alternative gas for all its customers, adding that it has replaced 17 LNG cargoes, or a total of 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas, as of Tuesday.
In 2009, QatarEnergy and Edison signed a 25-year contract for the supply of 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
