Israel-based Tower Semiconductor plans to invest around $3 billion to expand its semiconductor manufacturing operations in Japan, backed by $1 billion in grants from the Japanese government, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The chipmaker plans to increase its production capacity for 300mm Silicon Photonics (SiPho), Silicon Germanium (SiGe), and advanced optical packaging, which are key materials for AI systems.
After the first phase of capacity expansion, Tower expects its revenue to reach $3.6 billion and net profit to hit $1.2 billion in 2028, against its previous expectations of $2.8 billion in revenue and $750 million in net profit.
