Iridium Communications, Deutsche Telekom IoT Demonstrate Satellite Voice Messaging With Toyota

Iridium Communications (IRDM) and Deutsche Telekom IoT said Thursday they transmitted a voice message over Iridium NTN Direct in a demonstration with Toyota Motor (TM).

The message was sent from a Toyota vehicle equipped with a Nordic Semiconductor development board and a Deutsche Telekom IoT SIM and transmitted entirely through Iridium's low-Earth orbit satellite network, the companies said.

Deutsche Telekom IoT customers using compatible devices are expected to gain commercial access to Iridium NTN Direct in Q4, with select European clients already conducting trials, according to the joint statement.

The test illustrates how Iridium NTN Direct has the potential to provide connectivity beyond traditional coverage areas, according to the company.

AeroVironment Fiscal Q1 Adjusted Earnings, Revenue Rise

AeroVironment (AVAV) reported fiscal Q1 adjusted earnings late Wednesday of $0.59 per diluted share, up from $0.32 a year earlier.Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected $0.22.Revenue for the quarter ended Aug. 1 rose to $480.5 million from $454.7 million a year earlier.Analysts expected $451.9 million.For fiscal year 2027, the company maintained its revenue guidance at $2.13 billion to $2.23 billion and adjusted EPS forecast at $3.02 to $3.34.Analysts expect adjusted EPS of $3.23 on revenue of $2.19 billion.Shares of the company were up more than 3% in after-hours activity.

Sector Update: Financial Stocks Decline Late Afternoon

Financial stocks were lower in late Wednesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index shedding 0.5% and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) easing 0.4%.The Philadelphia Housing Index was falling 1.2%, and the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLRE) declined 1%.Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was increasing 0.2% to $78,193, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries rose 3.3 basis points to 4.84%.In economic news, the US Treasury Department plans to buy back up to $6 billion of government debt, CNBC reported.
