Iraq is seeking a larger OPEC quota to proceed with its ambition to increase oil output to 8 million to 10 million barrels per day within six years, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said on Friday, according to media reports citing his remarks at the Baghdad Dialog policy conference.
Al-Zaidi said he sent a delegation on Friday, including Iraq's ministers of oil and finance, to Saudi Arabia to make the request, Reuters reported.
The article said that OPEC+ has contracted Texas-based DeGolyer and MacNaughton to produce an independent assessment of the group's members' maximum sustainable production, with findings to be presented in late September, followed by discussions of member production quotas for 2027.
The Middle East online website said that al-Zaida noted that Iraq was seeking to export oil through Syria's Baniyas port and Jordan's Aqaba port.
