India's ONGC Finds Gas at Mahanadi Deepwater Well in Odisha, India

Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (NSE:ONGC, BOM:500312) has drilled its first gas-producing well in the Mahanadi Basin off Odisha's coast, according to a Monday filing with the bourse.

The Indian government-owned energy company said it drilled the deepwater well MN-DW18-1-H-D more than 1,600 meters deep and found gas between 1,441 and 1,452 meters.

ONGC said the well has shown encouraging gas flow since discovery and is looking for ways to monetize it because of its closeness to the coast, following further evaluation and appraisal.
