IDACORP Reports Lower Q1 Generation Power Sales Dip on Weather Impact

By

-- IDACORP (IDA) reported Q1 results Thursday, showing total system generation of 2,760 gigawatt-hours, down from 3,570 GWh a year earlier.

The Idaho-based electric utility holding company generated 1,560 GWh of hydropower for the quarter ended March 31, down from 2,120 GWh a year earlier.

The company generated 780 GWh from natural gas and other sources in Q1, compared with 770 GWh a year earlier.

The utility purchased 1,300 GWh of power in the quarter, down from 1,480 GWh a year earlier.

IDACORP generated 430 GWh from jointly owned thermal assets in the quarter, down from 670 GWh a year earlier, according to the company.

The company reported total energy sales of 3,770 GWh in the quarter, down from 4,700 GWh a year earlier as more moderate temperatures reduced heating demand.

Retail electricity sales reached 3,630 GWh, compared with 3,720 GWh a year earlier, the company said.

Residential sales totaled 1,560 GWh, down from 1,700 GWh a year earlier, while commercial sales came in at 1,050 GWh, down from 1,080 GWh a year earlier.

Industrial sales rose to 990 GWh in the quarter from 930 GWh a year earlier.

The company expects demand to grow over time, supported by customer additions of about 15,000 over the past year.

IDACORP plans to add about 250 megawatts of battery storage capacity in 2026, strengthening system flexibility and supporting reliability amid rising load requirements.

The company continues to advance its thermal generation pipeline, including the 167 MW Bennett expansion in 2028, the 222 MW South Hills project in 2029, and the 430 MW Peregrine project targeted for 2030.

IDACORP expects hydropower generation to range between 5,500 GWh and 7,000 GWh in 2026.
