Hyundai Motor Set for Another Strong Quarter as Asian Automakers Hit Record U.S. Market Share

By

Hyundai Motor (KRX:005380) is expected to deliver another strong quarter, with sales rising from both a year ago and the prior quarter, according to Cox Automotive data on Friday.

The analytics firm forecasts Hyundai Motor Group's Q3 sales at 511,421 units, up 6.5% year over year and 4.4% quarter over quarter, placing it ahead of Ford Motors.

Meanwhile, Asian brands are projected to exceed half of U.S. new-vehicle sales for a second straight quarter, approaching record-high market share.

Toyota (TYO:7203) is expected to post year-over-year Q3 growth and continues narrowing its gap with GM, aided by market share gains despite supply constraints on key models.

Honda Motor's (TYO:7267) sales are also expected to rise 12.2% year over year in Q3, with year-to-date sales up 5.6%.

Cox Automotive attributed this shift to consumers migrating toward hybrids and passenger cars, segments where Asian manufacturers hold significant advantages, and expects the trend to continue through the rest of the year.
