Sun will continue to perform his duties until the new director assumes office, according to a weekend filing with the Shanghai bourse.
The miner appointed Zhou Eryuan as general manager to succeed Qiu Dan, who resigned due to a work transfer.
Zhou has served as the company's deputy general manager and director of the safety supervision bureau.
Shares of Huaibei Mining closed 1% lower Monday.
