Hong Kong stocks opened lower on Monday as investors turned risk-averse amid fresh concerns over tensions in the Middle East.
The Hang Seng Index fell 0.5%, or 113.05 points, to 23,811.76. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index likewise lost 0.5%, or 40.49 points, to 7,935.55.
Market sentiment weakened after U.S. President Donald Trump raised the prospect of renewed military action against Iran, overshadowing diplomatic discussions between U.S. and Iranian officials aimed at preserving a temporary peace arrangement.
Adding to concerns, Tehran announced a renewed closure of the Strait of Hormuz, clouding hopes that a fragile ceasefire between the two sides could hold.
