Hong Kong stocks opened lower on Wednesday as investors remained cautious ahead of U.S. inflation data and weighed rising oil prices amid uncertainty over efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The Hang Seng Index fell 0.6%, or 154.43 points, to 25,498.39, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 0.6%, or 48.50 points, to 8,479.60.
Wall Street ended lower overnight as oil prices climbed on growing doubts over a potential U.S.-Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude rose 1.4%, while U.S. crude gained 1.3%.
Investors are awaiting the U.S. July consumer price report later Wednesday for clues on the Federal Reserve's interest rate path.
