Hong Kong stocks opened lower on Friday as a surge in oil prices and a sharp selloff in U.S. technology shares dampened investor sentiment.
The Hang Seng Index fell 1.1%, or 278.31 points, to 24,932.50, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 1.1%, or 94.75 points, to 8,257.92.
Wall Street ended sharply lower overnight after Alphabet and Tesla heightened concerns over the cost of artificial intelligence investments, overshadowing their quarterly results.
The Nasdaq slid more than 2% as technology shares led broad market losses.
Brent crude settled above $100 a barrel for the first time since May after renewed attacks in the Red Sea.
