Hong Kong stocks closed lower Friday as surging oil prices stoked inflation concerns.
The Hang Seng Index fell 148.84 points, or 0.6%, to close at 24,805.63, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 28.45 points, or 0.3%, to finish at 8,246.33.
Brent crude rose as much as 6% to $109.97 a barrel, its highest in four months, and was on track for an 11% weekly gain as fighting between the U.S. and Iran disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
Investors awaited U.S. August inflation data for further clues on the Fed's policy path, with core CPI forecast to rise 0.2% month-over-month.
Higher oil prices and sticky inflation have also prompted JPMorgan to expect eight of nine developed-market central banks to raise rates by year-end.
In corporate news, Venus Medtech (HKG:2500) closed 5% higher after agreeing to subscribe for 500 million yuan of shares and convertible bonds.
