Hong Kong is planning to develop a commodity trading ecosystem with gold as an entry point, a government document released Wednesday showed.
The city intends to leverage the role of gold as a strategic asset and eventually rival major international gold trading centers in the long term.
Hong Kong will also explore the development of yuan‑denominated gold and commodity markets and boost cooperation with Mainland exchanges including the Shanghai gold and futures exchanges.
Expedited efforts to attract international investors and expansion in the variety of yuan‑denominated products will also be on the agenda.
