The Hong Kong Monetary Authority launched a quantum preparedness whitepaper and the banking sector's first Quantum Preparedness Index, according to a Monday press release.
The inaugural index read 2.3 out of 10, indicating the sector is at an early stage of preparing for quantum-related cyber risks.
About half of surveyed banks lack formal post-quantum cryptography plans, the statement said.
The HKMA aims to achieve full sector-wide readiness by 2030 through a post-quantum cryptography toolkit, workshops and industry engagement.
