HK Electric said its fuel clause charge will rise to HK$0.419 per kilowatt-hour in July from HK$0.313 in June, a 34% increase, as higher international fuel prices stemming from the Middle East conflict lifted generation costs, according to a Thursday press release.
The utility said the July charge is based on average fuel costs over the preceding three months and does not yet fully reflect the recent surge in energy prices due to a lag in its pricing mechanism.
It expects the fuel clause charge to continue rising in the coming months if uncertainty in the Middle East persists.
