Fusion energy company has secured the regulatory licenses required to build and operate its first fusion power plant in Washington after receiving two approvals from the state's Department of Health, the company said on Monday.
The Radioactive Materials License and Radioactive Air Emissions License secured from the DOH on Monday confirms that the company's Orion facility in Malaga, Washington has the requisite facilities, personnel and safety programs to comply with rigorous safety standards needed for fusion operations, it said.
The two approvals are the latest in a group of key permits and licenses required for the Orion facility, which the company says will be the world's first fusion power plant.
Helion is also pursuing a transmission interconnection agreement with Chelan County Public Utility District, it said.
Helion has completed the assembly and office buildings and will now proceed with work on the generator building, after starting initial earthwork in spring 2026.
