Fitch Ratings expects China's money market funds (MMF) to further grow in 2026.
MMFs posted a 13% year-over-year growth in total assets under management to a record peak of 16.3 trillion yuan in May, Fitch said Thursday.
The largest MMF held about 4% of total assets at the end of the first quarter, while the five biggest ones had a 13% share, according to Fitch.
Retail investors composed about 75% of the market at the end of 2025, the rating agency said.
Fitch sees the shift from repos to negotiable certificates of deposits as a liquidity boost, as the latter are being traded in the secondary market.
Average MMF yield fell to 1% in June, with low levels to linger this year, Fitch said.
