Midcontinent Independent System Operator, the electric grid operator in Central US, issued a maximum generation warning on Wednesday, amid a heatwave that started at 1 p.m. ET and was eventually terminated around 8 p.m. ET.
The warning was due to forced generation outages, above-normal temperatures and higher than projected load on the grid, MISO said in its alert.
MISO ensures power flow reliability across 15 states in the US and Canada's Manitoba province. It facilitates electricity trading in its service areas and works with stakeholders for future grid planning, according to MISO's website.
Earlier this week, the US National Weather Service forecast continued significant heat wave in the Rockies, Northern Plains, and the region stretching from the Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic.
The intensity of the heatwave was expected peak midweek and it is likely to linger in parts of Northern Plains and Midwest until this weekend, the agency said.
