Glenfarne said on Friday it had issued a limited notice to proceed for its Texas LNG export project in Brownsville, Texas, marking another step toward a final investment decision.
Texas LNG Brownsville, a unit of Glenfarne developing the proposed export terminal at the Port of Brownsville, has authorized engineering, procurement and construction contractor Kiewit Energy to begin work under a limited notice to proceed.
The authorization covers purchase orders for long-lead equipment, engineering activities and geotechnical work required to prepare the project site for full construction and an eventual final investment decision.
Brendan Duval, Glenfarne's founder and CEO, said that by advancing key equipment, engineering, and site-readiness work during LNTP, the company is maintaining project momentum, improving execution certainty, and positioning Texas LNG to move efficiently into full construction.
Texas LNG has already secured authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to construct and operate the facility.
The facility also signed a lump-sum turnkey engineering, procurement and construction agreement with Kiewit.
The latest authorization enables the project to advance critical preparatory work while developers continue efforts to reach a final investment decision.
Glenfarne's portfolio of permitted LNG projects in North America totals 32.8 million metric tons per annum of capacity under development across Alaska, Louisiana and Texas.
