German equities blinked green at the start of a new trading week, closing Monday 0.14% higher, as Iran said talks with Oman regarding an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz are "progressing smoothly and constructively."
Reuters reported that negotiations between Iran and Oman on new Strait of Hormuz navigation lanes are entering their final stages, with a route map agreed on, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. However, Tehran maintains the waterway will not fully reopen until the US meets its demands regarding war damage compensation, sanctions relief and an end to military threats.
Amid a quiet day for economic news, investors await key economic updates for the week, including Germany's final inflation print for July due on Wednesday, industrial production data for the euro area on Thursday and gross domestic product and employment figures for the eurozone expected on Friday.
On the corporate front, Rheinmetall (RHM.F) will set up an independent system integration capability in Germany for Boeing's (BCO.F) MQ-28 Ghost Bat to bolster the German Air Force's development of its collaborative combat aircraft capabilities. The German arms manufacturer lost 0.03% at closing, while Boeing's Frankfurt-listed stock was 2% in the green.
Infineon Technologies (IFX.F) was up 1.51%, climbing to one of the top spots of the DAX, as Metzler Capital Markets revised its model after the German semiconductor company upgraded its fiscal 2026 outlook following its third-quarter results. Infineon's revenue guidance was revised to 16.3 billion euros from the previous projection of a "significantly" higher revenue year over year.
"Multi-year visibility is improving, as IFX expanded its order backlog sequentially by EUR5bn to approximately EUR30bn," the research firm wrote. "We [are] turning increasingly constructive on the company's AI datacenter opportunity, raising our expectations for the [Power & Sensor Systems] and [Green Industrial Power] segments stronger than for other business segments."
Meanwhile, Commerzbank (CBK.F) and UniCredit held their first formal talks on managing the expected regulatory transition if the Italian lender gains control of the German bank. The discussions focused on accounting, legal and risk management implications of the potential consolidation, Bloomberg News reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Commerzbank was 0.26% in the green at the end of the session.
