G7 leaders pledged additional military support for Ukraine, tougher sanctions on Russia and backing for a US-Iran deal in a joint statement released Wednesday.
The group said it would increase deliveries of air defense systems, including interceptors and long-range capabilities, to Ukraine, while stepping up sanctions on Russia, including those on the oil and gas sectors.
The G7 also welcomed and pledged to contribute to the implementation of a US-Iran deal aimed at preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The group also supported efforts to resume maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We reaffirm that the right of transit passage without restrictions or tolls is the bedrock of international trade," according to the statement.
