Flex said on Friday it had agreed to acquire US-based power conversion technology firm EPC Power for $4.4 billion in cash and stock, betting on the surging energy demands driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure and grid modernization.
The deal is expected to close in Q4, pending customary regulatory approvals. EPC Power will operate as a business within Flex's Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment upon the deal's closure.
EPC Power develops software-defined power conversion technologies designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity delivery. Its products include digital rectifiers, solid-state transformers, and its AgileGrid Forming technology, which supports energy storage, microgrids, and grid-support applications.
The company's next-generation 800-volt data center power architectures are expected to complement Flex's existing technologies and help create an integrated grid-to-chip power portfolio.
The acquisition unites EPC Power's platform with Flex's broad portfolio of power and thermal management technologies, creating an integrated grid-to-chip offering designed to support mission-critical applications.
