The U.S. Federal Communications Commission will vote to bar the sale of devices in the country that contain components from blacklisted companies, Chairman Brendan Carr said in a blog post Tuesday.
The FCC measure will "close a loophole" and "protect Americans from electronic devices that have been determined to pose unacceptable risks to the national security of the United States," Carr said in his post.
The commission keeps a list of entities whose equipment are not allowed for sale in the U.S., among them Huawei Technologies, due to national security concerns, Reuters reported separately.
However, FCC regulations do not prohibit U.S. sales of smartphones that contain chips, for instance, of Huawei chip unit HiSilicon, according to the news agency.
Huawei did not immediately respond to a request for comment from.
