European Equities Traded in the US as American Depositary Receipts Rise in Tuesday Trading

European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were climbing sharply higher late Tuesday morning, rising 1.57% to 1,909.91 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.

From continental Europe, the gainers were led by telecommunications company Nokia (NOK) and biopharmaceutical company argenx (ARGX), which rose 5.5% and 2.3% respectively. They were followed by lender Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA)and oil and gas company Eni (E), which were up 2.2% and 0.9% respectively.

The decliners from continental Europe were led by software firm SAP (SAP) and consumer goods company Unilever (UL), which fell 1.7% and 1.3% respectively. They were followed by healthcare tech company Royal Philips (PHG) and 3D printer company Materialise (MTLS), which were down 1% and 0.8%. respectively

The gainers from the UK were led by mining company BHP Group (BHP) and lender Lloyds Banking Group (LYG), which advanced 2.7% and 2.1%, respectively. They were followed by lender Barclays (BCS) and biotech firm Autolus Therapeutics (AUTL), which gained 2% and 0.9%, respectively.

The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical company Akari Therapeutics (AKTX) and communications company WPP (WPP), which lost 6.3% and 4.3% respectively. They were followed by telecommunications operator Vodafone Group (VOD) and tobacco company British American Tobacco (BTI), which dropped 1.2% and 1% respectively.

The full closure of the Bab el-Mandeb strait would reduce global oil supply by 7% as it would leave most of Saudi oil exports unable to leave the region, the news report said. The disruption would add to the reduction in oil flows from the war, which has already cut shipments by 10% of global supply, it added.The front-month US West Texas Intermediate rose 0.6% to $83.01 a barrel, while global benchmark North Sea Brent climbed 0.9% to $88.88 a barrel, after both crude types traded lower earlier in the session.Most US Treasury yields rose, with the 10-year advancing 5.3 basis points to 4.59%.
