Italy's Enel Group, a leading distributor of electricity and gas, met with Brazil's power regulator Aneel last week to discuss the potential revocation of its Sao Paulo power distribution concession, amid a series of outages in recent years, due to heavy rains.
The meeting took place last Tuesday at the request of Enel Brasil, which sought alternatives to the revocation, Reuters reported earlier, citing two officials familiar with the matter.
In a statement to, Enel said Wednesday that it had "made itself available to the authorities to assess complementary measures and carry out additional investments," while noting that it remained focused on continuous improvements in service quality in its "concession area."
The company also said that over the past two years, it had invested nearly 5 billion Brazilian reais ($990 million), up 70% from 2023, on strengthening operations, which it said had led to significant improvements in quality indicators.
Enel also noted it was now performing "above the national average" for distribution companies.
