Eli Lilly and Co. (LLY) received UK authorization for orforglipron, marketed as Foundayo, a once-daily tablet for weight management and type 2 diabetes, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said Monday.
The UK is the first country in Europe to authorize the GLP-1 tablet for weight management and type 2 diabetes.
The oral treatment is cleared for weight loss and weight maintenance, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, in adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI from 27 to 30 with at least one weight-related condition, MHRA said.
Patients take the pill daily without food or water restrictions, starting at 0.8 mg before escalating through several dose levels to 17.2 mg, with a minimum of one month at each dose level, the agency said.
The therapy also is authorized to improve glycemic control in patients with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes, it said.
