Earthrise Energy said Monday that the Will County Board approved a special use permit for its 600-megawatt Pride of the Prairie solar project in Illinois.
Earthrise will connect the project through the existing interconnection point at its Lincoln Generating Facility, allowing new electricity supply to come online faster as regional power demand rises.
The company expects the project to generate about $3.5 million in new tax revenue for local taxing bodies and nearly $300,000 for Will County during the first year of operations.
Earthrise said the project could deliver about $80 million to local taxing bodies and nearly $7 million to the county over the project's lifetime, supporting schools, infrastructure and public services.
Chief Executive Officer Jeff Hunter said Earthrise will reuse existing transmission infrastructure from operating power plants to bring renewable electricity online faster than traditional greenfield developments.
