A remote-controlled drone attempted to target fuel tanks at Libya's Brega depot on Airport Road, the state-owned National Oil, said in an update on social media on Thursday.
The attempted strike caused no significant damage, while the corporation called the incident a dangerous act of sabotage and urged security and military authorities to protect oil facilities.
"The National Oil Corporation condemns the attempted targeting of fuel tanks at the Brega depot on Airport Road this morning by a remote-controlled drone. Thankfully, no significant damage was reported," NOC said, according to a translation of the post.
The corporation raised emergency readiness across all sites and deployed specialized teams to draw fuel from tanks and lower fuel levels as a precaution.
NOC warned that attacks on oil infrastructure threaten national resources, requiring stronger security measures at vital and sensitive sites across Libya.
The corporation called for protection of oil facilities and workers, saying their safety remains critical to maintaining fuel supplies, energy security and public safety.
The strike damaged some pipelines and tanks after shrapnel fell on the facilities, Reuters reported, citing a Brega Petroleum Marketing spokesperson, whose company is in charge of Libya's fuel supplies.
Libya's oil facilities have faced repeated attacks and closures since the 2011 uprising, including drone strikes that destroyed a fuel tank at the Zawiya oil complex in August, according to Reuters.
