Contact Energy Posts Higher Retail Electricity, Gas Sales in August

Contact Energy's (ASX:CEN, NZE:CEN) retail mass-market electricity and gas sales increased year on year in August, while wholesale contracted electricity sales declined slightly from a year earlier, according to Thursday filings with the New Zealand bourse.

Mass market electricity and gas sales jumped to 550 gigawatt hours (GWh) in August from 454 GWh last year.

Wholesale electricity sales to customer businesses rose to 411 GWh in the month from 404 GWh in August 2025, while sales to commercial and industrial customers were up to 204 GWh from 168 GWh.

Wholesale contracted electricity sales fell to 1,087 GWh from 1,090 GWh, while spot electricity sales decreased to 1,006 GWh from 1,039 GWh.

Total customer connections reached 712,000 in August, compared with 655,000 a year earlier.
