Commonwealth Fusion Systems said Thursday it has raised $1 billion in fresh equity financing to accelerate commercialization, specifically supporting the final assembly of its Sparc fusion demonstration machine in Devens, Massachusetts.
The new funding brings its total capital raised to $4 billion.
The company already submitted an interconnection application to PJM Interconnection. CFS remains on track to deliver commercial fusion power to the grid in the early 2030, it added.
This timeline is further underpinned by strategic partnerships and power purchase agreements with major buyers, including Dominion Energy (D), Google (GOOG), and Eni (E).
