CJ CGV, a subsidiary of CJ (KRX:001040), has been ordered by the Seoul Central District Court to pay 15.3 billion won in a first-instance rent lawsuit filed by Industrial Bank of Korea, acting as trustee for a real estate investment trust.
The court ruled that the lease agreement between the two parties was lawfully terminated, but partially reduced the contractual penalties and liquidated damages on the grounds that the original amounts were excessive.
The judgment, issued on Aug. 13, carries interest at 18% per annum until full payment and is subject to provisional execution, according to a bourse filing on Tuesday.
The amount represents approximately 2.36% of CJ CGV's consolidated equity capital of 650.3 billion won as of Dec. 31, 2025.
The company has stated that it will respond in accordance with legal procedures in consultation with its legal counsel, and the ruling remains subject to appeal as it is only a first-instance decision.
