Chinese shares opened mixed on Wednesday as investors took a wait-and-see approach before the high-stakes summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington.
The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, ticked down 0.76 of a point to 3,951.37. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.1% to 13,742.55.
Market participants are holding off on significant moves until there is clarity on whether the Sino-U.S. trade truce will be extended and how both governments will address issues concerning export restrictions, rare-earth materials and artificial intelligence policy.
Separately, the Asian Development Bank expects China's economy to grow 4.6% in 2026, unchanged from its July estimate. For 2027, the real GDP growth estimate also remained at 4.5%.
