China Shares Muted at Open on Caution Ahead of US Inflation Data, Middle East Tensions

By

Chinese shares opened muted in negative territory on Wednesday amid investor caution ahead of the release of the U.S. Consumer Price Index report and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, opened 0.54 of a point lower to 3,933.55. The Shenzhen Component Index declined 6.32 points to 14,253.12.

Market participants are closely watching the upcoming U.S. consumer inflation report, which is expected to influence expectations regarding the Federal Reserve's monetary policy trajectory.

Analysts anticipate the inflation data to show a downward trend, which would reinforce the case for the Fed to maintain its current rate stance rather than implementing further hikes.

Investors are also disappointed by the stalled talks in the Persian Gulf, according to reports, especially after last week's over-optimistic response to promises of a breakthrough.
