China is requiring automobile manufacturers to promptly file recall plans with the State Administration for Market Regulation after defects are uncovered in their products.
The mandate is part of the government's one-year nationwide campaign to improve automobile quality, according to a Thursday joint statement from the SAMR and the ministries of industry and information technology, public security, and ecology and environment.
Automakers are also required to conduct strict evaluation and testing to identify potential risks, strengthen self-regulation and improve their vehicle standards system.
The new regulation came after Tesla and eight Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers recalled 4.3 million vehicles last week, marking China's biggest automotive recall, according to a Reuters report on Thursday.
