Changchun High-Tech Industry's (SHE:000661) subsidiary, Changchun GeneScience Pharmaceutical, received approval from China's National Medical Products Administration for the clinical trials of GenSci144 tablets, according to a Shenzhen bourse filing on Wednesday.
The drug will be tested as a treatment for phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder caused by defects in the phenylalanine hydroxylase gene, leading to hyperphenylalaninemia.
The Chinese drug manufacturer's shares dropped 2% during the afternoon trade.
