CATL Launches Sodium-Ion Batteries, China Deliveries Set For September

Contemporary Amperex Technology (SHE:300750, HKG:3750) or CATL has unveiled TENER Sodium Energy Storage, a new sodium-ion battery product, in Munich, Germany, according to a press release on Monday.

CATL will begin initial deliveries of the new product in China in September, with total shipments expected to reach 1 GWh by the end of the year.

International deliveries are slated to begin in June 2027.

CATL is positioning sodium-ion batteries as an alternative to lithium-based batteries, as sodium is over 1,000 times more abundant than lithium and more widely distributed, the company said.
