Canadian travel to the United States showed a modest rebound in June, but volumes remain substantially below levels before Donald Trump's second presidency, suggesting that cross-border travel demand has yet to recover, according to data from Statistics Canada Monday.
Canadian-resident return trips from the United States reached 1.7 million, up 3.2% on the year and marking the third consecutive month of annual growth, Canada's statistical agency said,
The increase was driven by a 5.2% rise in vehicle return trips in June. In contrast, air travel from the US declined 3.8% year over year during the month.
Travel patterns among Canadian residents began shifting in early 2025 amid rising political tensions between Canada and the US after Trump was sworn in as president.
Compared with June 2024, the number of trips by Canadians in June 2026 was down more than 28%, added StatsCan.
