Canadian Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson revealed federal investment of CA$19 million ($13.7 million) for StormFisher Environmental to expand an anaerobic digester producing renewable natural gas from waste food, the government said in a statement on Monday.
This contributes towards a total investment of CA$70 million, mostly paid for by Natural Resources Canada's Clean Fuels Fund, to increase the gas production capacity of the digester to produce the fuel along with fertilizer to be used on farms in Southwestern Ontario.
The expansion work will multiply current capacity, adding 450,000 gigajoules for a total of 675,000 GJ per year. The work will result in an 86,000 ton-per-year addition to fertilizer production capacity.
