Broadcom, OpenAI Unveil LLM-Optimized Processor

Broadcom (AVGO) said Wednesday that it and OpenAI unveiled Jalapeno, OpenAI's first Intelligence Processor, an AI accelerator designed for large language model inference.

The company said OpenAI designed the chip from scratch, while partners Broadcom and Celestica supported the project.

Broadcom said early testing shows that Jalapeno will provide performance per watt "substantially better" than current state-of-the-art.

The company said OpenAI models were used to accelerate parts of the chip's design and optimization process.
