BP (BP) should prioritize "financial discipline" to increase its long-term value for shareholders, chief executive Meg O'Neill said in a LinkedIn post on Thursday.
"We need to be deliberate about where we invest and where we don't," she said in a post that marked her first 100 days in the job. "We need to make fewer, better choices and hold ourselves to account."
O'Neill highlighted that the company is taking concrete actions to simplify its portfolio, reduce costs, tighten capital expense discipline, and strengthen its balance sheet.
She also noted that BP introduced its simplified business model last week, based on its upstream and downstream businesses, with trading integrating both units.
Since joining BP, the chief executive said she has witnessed significant milestones, including securing diesel from the Cherry Point Refinery in the US to Australia amid supply disruptions, and a 30% increase in jet fuel output at Spain's Castellon refinery ahead of the travel season.
BP's recent commercial milestones also include the first commercial gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field in Azerbaijan, and partnerships in Abu Dhabi, India, and Indonesia, O'Neill said.
