The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced Monday the release of a final environmental review for a proposal to conduct well stimulation work on up to 16 existing wells at Platform Gilda offshore California.
The review examines DCOR LLC's plan to conduct well stimulation activities, including hydraulic fracturing, at the offshore platform as part of an update to its Development and Production Plan, BOEM said.
BOEM completed the environmental review in 28 days after launching the process under emergency procedures tied to the national energy emergency, the bureau said.
Subject matter experts contributed technical analysis to the review, while public comments helped shape the scope of the environmental assessment, according to BOEM.
Acting Director Matt Giacona said science and transparency guided the review process, adding, "Our responsibility is to ensure that any proposed offshore activity is reviewed thoroughly, consistently and with a clear commitment to environmental protection."
BOEM said the environmental review does not constitute approval of the proposed work. The agency plans to make a final decision in a separate record after evaluating environmental findings and other relevant factors.
