Blykalla, a Swedish nuclear technology company, on Tuesday said it is partnering with Microsoft (MSFT) to use artificial intelligence to speed up the process related to nuclear permitting and licensing for its advanced nuclear reactors.
The company has started deploying Microsoft's generative AI tools in its regulatory workflows to reduce the time needed to license its Swedish Advanced Lead Reactor or Sealer in Sweden and the US, Blykalla said in a statement.
"By using AI to support permitting, the company expects to significantly accelerate its permitting process and time to market, with the ambition of transforming a documentation effort traditionally measured in years into one measured in months, without compromising quality or safety," the statement said.
Currently, Blykalla is pursuing regulatory approvals to build two advanced nuclear reactor parks in Sweden. It is also at the pre-application engagement stage with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission as it seeks expansion in the country.
Sealer uses a proprietary aluminum-alloyed steel design to withstand corrosion from liquid lead, enabling the commercialization of lead-cooled fast reactors. Its compact design allows for rapid deployment and flexible locations, including industrial facilities and AI data centers, the statement said.
