Bank of Baroda (NSE:BANKBARODA, BOM:532134) on Tuesday confirmed a data breach and said it has activated its cyber incident response and containment protocols, according to a filing to the Indian stock exchanges.
The lender's actions are in response to reports of internal documents and one terrabyte worth of data being leaked on the dark web.
The bank said it has received a communication from an anonymous source claiming access to certain data.
Based on the preliminary findings, "the incident has been identified as a potential business email compromise and not expected to have any material impact on the Bank's operations, financial performance or business continuity," it said.
Bank of Baroda's core business functions continued to operate normally without disruption, it clarified, adding that a detailed assessment is underway, and required remedial and preventive measures are being implemented.
