Australian shares rose on Tuesday mirroring a rally on Wall Street overnight.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index gained 1.4%, or 126.50 points, to close at 9,145.80, setting a new 100-day high.
On Wall Street, the Nasdaq Composite, the S&P 500, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.1%, 1.5%, and 1.3%, respectively.
Brent crude oil futures traded around $84 per barrel. US President Donald Trump said talks to end the conflict in the Middle East and open the Strait of Hormuz had resumed.
On the domestic front, the ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian consumer confidence rose 3.5 points to 74.7 in the week of July 27 to Aug. 2, ANZ reported. The four-week moving average was flat at 74.2.
Australia's seasonally adjusted household spending rose 0.8% to AU$81.28 billion in June, following a 1.2% increase in the previous month, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported.
In company news, Credit Corp Group (ASX:CCP) logged AU$1.55 in EPS for the fiscal year 2026, compared with AU$1.366 a year ago. For the 12 months ended June 30, revenue was AU$586 million versus AU$545.6 million previously.
Charter Hall Social Infrastructure REIT (ASX:CQE) logged AU$0.173 in operating earnings per unit for the fiscal year 2026, compared with AU$0.153 a year ago. For the 12 months ended June 30, revenue was AU$122.9 million versus AU$118.4 million previously.
Lastly, Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) and Japan Airlines (TYO:9201) signed a binding agreement to facilitate the change in Jetstar Japan's shareholder structure through a share buyback transaction, with the divestment of Qantas' 33.32% minority stake, subject to regulatory approvals.
