Australian Shares Flat; Core Lithium to Sell Northern Territory Operation Lithium Fines Stockpile to Glencore

Australian shares were flat on Friday despite gains on Wall Street overnight.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index was little changed to close at 9,005.90.

Overnight on Wall Street, the S&P 500, the Nasdaq Composite, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.1%, 1.4%, and 1.2%, respectively. The US payrolls data for August is expected later in the day.

Brent crude oil futures ​held around $95 per barrel as the US and Iran continued hostilities. Gold bullion held above $4,400 per ounce.

On the domestic front, the number of filled jobs in Australia rose by 0.7% to 16.3 million in seasonally adjusted terms in the June quarter, the fifth quarterly rise in a row, according to Labor Account figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Australia's national dwelling prices fell 0.9% in August, marking the fifth straight month of declines, while the eight-capital city index fell 1.1% and is now 4.6% below its peak, according to a report by National Australia Bank.

In company news, Core Lithium (ASX:CXO) agreed to sell the final batch of lithium fines stockpile from the Finniss operation in the Northern Territory to Glencore International. The stockpile amounts to about 25,000 tonnes with a base price of roughly $285 per tonne cost, insurance, and freight, subject to customary adjustments.

Peter Warren Automotive (ASX:PWR) secured approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for its proposed acquisition of Wakeling Automotive's new car dealerships, conditional on the company divesting eight dealership sites.

Lastly, Stanmore Resources (ASX:SMR) struck a deal to acquire the Moranbah South tenements in Queensland from Exxaro Resources for $105 million.

Jingneng Clean Energy Buys Land via Unit Stake Sale

Beijing Jingneng Clean Energy (HKG:0579) will sell a 12.1% stake in a subsidiary to Jingxi Power Generation in exchange for industrial land, which had been previously leased to accommodate the company's assets, according to a bourse filing on Wednesday.The company said it bought the land, located in Beijing and valued at 279.5 million yuan, in order to proceed with construction for its waste heat utilization project, which would not have been otherwise permitted under its previous arrangement with Jingxi.Jingxi Power was issued 141.1 million new shares in the subsidiary, and the company did not receive cash proceeds from the transaction.Both Jingxi and Jingneng are tied to Beijing Energy Holding, the holding and controlling entity of the companies.
