Australia's Cheaper Home Batteries Program has now led to the installation of more than 500,000 units, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said in a statement late last week.
The sun-kissed country has the highest uptake of rooftop solar worldwide, with installations now having reached one in three homes, the statement said while it is also taking pressure off the grid as the country seeks to reduce its reliance on coal and gas.
About three quarters of batteries installed through the program were fitted at homes in outer suburban and regional communities. Batteries are flattening peak even usage of grid power regardless of whether they are tied to solar installations, the statement said.
