Australia has secured three shipments of jet fuel totaling 600,000 barrels, or about 100 million liters, plus 38,500 metric tons of agricultural grade urea from Brunei, the government said in a statement on Tuesday.
The jet fuel deal which foresees deliveries in June, was reached after discussions between Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
While such imports are usually not news, their scarcity in the midst of the Iran war that has choked off the movement of about 20% of the world's global oil and gas supplies, has made securing them more of a feat.
The statement said the new supply additions add to fuel and fertilizer secured by the Albanese government's $7.5 billion Fuel and Fertiliser Security Facility that seeks to mitigate the impact of the current global energy crisis on transport and agriculture.
