Aurizon Holdings (ASX:AZJ) has secured a new performance-based coal rail haulage contract with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), covering five metallurgical coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, according to a Monday filing with the Australian bourse.
The contract covers BMA's Goonyella Riverside, Broadmeadow, Peak Downs, Saraji and Caval Ridge mines, per the filing.
The contract provides annual volume flexibility of up to 37 million tonnes from July 1, 2028, and runs for up to 12 years, potentially extending the company's relationship with BMA through to 2040, the filing said.
The new contract will replace the company's existing contract, which has been in place since 2015, the filing added.
