Auckland International Airport (ASX:AIA, NZE:AIA) plans to add or replace 10 kilometers of baggage conveyor equipment as part of an effort to modernize the original baggage handling system at Auckland Airport in New Zealand, according to a Tuesday statement.
This will result in the system being three times longer than the existing one, and it is expected to be finished in 2029.
The system will be upgraded to an individual carrier system, which will transport bags through the airport on individual trays tracked with new radio frequency identification tags. It will also include early bag storage, allowing customers to check in their luggage before departure.
Its shares fell 1% in recent trading on the New Zealand bourse.
